Websites That Work Well

In this blog posting, I will be showcasing ten websites that I believe work well. I have chosen these websites not as my favourite sites, but because over time they have left some sort of impression with me. Notice I did not say website designs that work because not all of these sites will win design awards in my books. So, here they are:
There once was a time when I was in university when I needed to look for a job. Workopolis.com provided an effective way to search for jobs according to region and category of interest. This site has been around for a while now and has seemed to stood the test of time. They recently updated their website as well and now features less clutter - although I kind of liked the clutter of their old website. Perhaps I was just used to it and now that I am not in the market for a new job, I have not really given their new updated website a good test.
Kijiji is a classified ads website that allows people to post advertisements online. I am a big fan of this site as I have had good success selling items in a reasonable amount of time. For example, I listed my wife's car for sale and within an hour I had a response, the person came to my residence, and purchased the car. This tells me one thing. The site works. It gets traffic as tons of people surf this website looking to buy and sell. I just wish it did not go from one edge of the screen to the other as I have a couple of wide screen monitors.
Browsershots.org used to be one of my favourite websites for checking cross browser compatibility for websites that we design. One of the main features I like is its wide selection of browsers to render screenshots from. It has a deselect all button which makes it easy to pick and choose the browsers I want to see my new designs in. Unfortunately, it seems lately that they have become so popular there is a greater wait time for browsers, although in fairness, it is sometimes hit and miss. There still are times when we get fast service and the service is free.
I am not advocating any specific style of journalism, but I really like the way that cnn.com's website works. Their news categories are well laid out, their navigation system works well - for the most part. One criticism that I do have is that CNN Money and CNN Sports lead the site visitor into a totally different layout scheme. Really, they should open in a new tab or window as they are separate websites.
